What is a salt spoon?
First up is a product that certainly got some attention, nicknamed the 'weirdest innovation of CES 2025', we have the Kirin Electric Spoon designed by Japanese drinks company Kirin Holdings. The spoons send a small electrical current to the tongue that causes sodium ions to gather on the tongue, altering the flavour of whatever it is you're eating. To cause this electric current, the electricity is delivered through the back of the spoon handle via a metal strip that stretches across the entire product until it reaches your mouth.
There are four salt settings available, each one getting stronger and stronger depending on your salt intake. It's a great concept for anyone who's trying to eat healthier but still wants that delicious taste of salty foods.
What is the Jizai table robot?
Next up, we saw the Jizai robot, a lookalike of the iconic Pixar Lamp created by Japanese robotics company, Jizai. It's a 'customisable general purpose AI robot', that follows you around the house, offering a light source and a table so you can always find somewhere to place your smartphone, book or even legs if you're tired. We currently have little information on this tech which has been confirmed to be revealed further in the early months of 2025.
One thing we are interested in however is if the robot will be able to hold drinks and food, considering it's a walkable table, does the flat top of the table stay balanced whilst the legs do all the moving? How do we ensure the robot doesn't spill any food or drink whilst in motion?
What is the next generation robot?
The moving table wasn't the only robot revealed at CES 2025. Introducing the R2D3 OpenDroid robot, described as a domestic robot this multi-tasking tool simplifies the way we complete household chores. It's the second-gen robot created by San Francisco-based robotics startup, OpenDroids. The robot can fold laundry, wash dishes, clean parts of the home and more.
At the moment, the R2D3 robot is being tested at multiple rehab centres, assisting workers with repetitive tasks to see if it's useable. We hope to see more of it in the future.
What is the competitor of Nintendo Switch?
With the big news of the Nintendo Switch 2 allegedly releasing within the next couple of months, it's no surprise that a competitor to the Switch has popped up last minute. The Nitro Blaze 11 portable console by Acer is a portable console that's much bigger than normal portable consoles. It has a 7.4" screen, weighs 2.3 pounds and is much, much lighter than some current portable models. Rumours on social media have stated the console will release in the second quarter of 2025, (around March-April 2025) conveniently the same time the Switch 2 is set to release.
What are smart glasses and what do they do?
Last year, we spoke a lot about smart glasses and their inevitable return to the tech industry. And now they're here!
Introducing the Chamelo Smart Glasses, one of the first-ever pairs of smart glasses that look like real glasses. They are sleek, stylish and practical for everyday use. The main feature of the product is that the lens of the glasses can tint to alter the colour, all it takes is the simple touch of a button.
What is a ThinkBook rolling laptop?
Next up is one of our favourite concepts to come out of CES 2025 and that's the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable AI Laptop (big name we know). It's the worlds first rollable laptop screen! The laptop is a normal Lenovo model with the normal specs and performance abilities, however with the press of a button, the screen transforms from an impressive 14" to an incredible 16".
The screen grows from inside the keyboard upwards, thanks to the OLED flexible screen panel. We hope now that the laptop rolling screen has been mastered, we can see this tech be introduced into other laptops, tablets and even eventually smartphones!
What is the fragrance laptop?
It wasn't only rolling technology that was introduced to the laptop industry. We also saw another world first. The Fragrance Edition Asus Adol 14 laptop. Built into the laptop is a fragrance dispenser, it's inside a circular compartment that users can open and insert a fragrance pack to ensure their laptop keeps smelling spectacular. Asus offers 3 fragrance options that can be bought, but we are still unsure how long each scent pack lasts.
The main concept of the model is to keep your working area smelling great, enhancing productivity and a positive working environment, we really like this idea and hope it performs well. There is also some movement on this product's release potential, the laptop should be released in August in China, expected to have a UK and US price of approximately $960.
What is an AI keyboard?
Nearing the later days of CES 2025, we saw the future of keyboards arrive with Auto Key. It's a normal keyboard but split into two separate segments, each with the normal placement keys of a typical keyboard. Under the keyboard, there's a touchpad which can be accessed when you lift your hand, where the keys slide into the device revealing the touchpad to use. It speeds up the need for a touchpad and mouse because it's under the keys, meaning it should speed up your work productivity.
Whilst we love this concept, the only negative we had was the price of the keyboard is ridiculous. $700 just to blend your mouse and keyboard into one, it's clear that productivity does come with a price!
Is Nex Playground worth it?
And finally, the last big invention at CES 2025 that we wanted to discuss was the Nex Playground console. We have Nintendo Switch, we have Xbox, and we have PlayStation. Now we may also have Playground.
Playground is a new gaming console company that seems to be making it's way into the gaming limelight. It's a family console that aims to get the family moving! Jumping, sweating and laughing as your family creates magical memories together!
The device is a small, cubed console with a yellow square and camera that plays various games like Hungry Hippos, Fruit Ninja, Connect 4 and other interactive, real life games. Currently, the game is only available in the US, available in the states at Amazon, Target, Best Buy and Walmart. We hope this console eventually arrives overseas and becomes a permanent member of the elite gaming console industry.
