In December 2024, we got our first insight into Samsung's top competitor for the Apple Vision Pro headset, the Android XT Headset. It was teased on social media that this headset will include AI and VR features including hand and eye tracking to allow users to get their work done on the move virtually. It was described as even having a virtual keyboard which worked by tapping the air to press the keys. When it was originally teased, there was no announcement or release date, but now.. we (kind of) have both.
So in this blog, we explore this new headset, and what was revealed, comparing it to the Vision Pro to see if it's another headset in the Vision Pros shadow or a possible contender for the VR headset space.

Will the Samsung headset look like the Vision Pro?
As we and many, many others have stated, the Android XT looks like a direct copy of the Apple Vision Pro. We just hope that the price isn't copied too. The XT has that same black frame lens that covers the eyes, and silver/white framing that goes over the head. There aren't as many wheels and buttons on the side of the XT as there is on the Vision Pro, it appears like a much cleaner model.
The section of the XT that holds the face to completely black out the users surroundings seems like a different material compared to the Vision Pro, which looks like it has a softer material. Viewers struggled to get close up photos of the XT due to the fact it was on a stand, and this is the first time that we've been able to get public images.
A final thing we noticed was that the XT head strap seems a lot smaller on the XT. Whilst it's still cushioned and fabricated, there's a lot less material supporting the back of the head. This again, allows us to believe the XT will be a lot cheaper and lighter than the Vision Pro, purely due to the choice of material usage, design and overall quality.
When did the Samsung VR headset come out?
Samsung made sure to make it clear that the XT headset won't be available to the public consumers as of yet. It's rumoured developers will be able to get their hands on the device soon, but no price tag or general dates have been mentioned by Samsung. Again, this was purely a visual release to fans allowing them to take photos and speculate over the headset. Along with the XT Headset, there was also a quick tease to a possible pair of smart glasses.
Though we won't get any further updates on this until much later in the year, it was briefly explained to fans for about 5 minutes that Galaxy Glasses could arrive in the near future. When mentioning their smartphones, foldables, headset and more, we saw a brief image of glasses. Could these somehow tie into the Android XT Headset? Is that why we heard very little about either product? We'll have to wait and see.
