What Are The Dell Pro And Dell Pro Max Laptops?

What Are The Dell Pro And Dell Pro Max Laptops?

Charlotte Bolton |

At the beginning of the year, tech company Dell announced they were releasing a new line of laptops. As usual, we were expecting the classic names of latitude, XPS, precision and more, but we were met with a twist. Dell has re-named their laptop line, going for a simple Dell, Dell Pro and Dell Pro Max. This change has massively simplified Dells line, making it so much more understandable for those who aren't as tech-savvy.

So, let's have a look at what the new models mean, and how they compare to the old names.

Is Dell changing the names of laptops?

To begin, let's explain why. Why would Dell feel the need to change their line name after so long? First up, this new label helps everyday users understand the difference between the laptop options. We already have an idea what the difference between a Pro and Pro Max model would be, whilst we're still stuck on the differences between an Inspiron and Latitude laptop for example.

On Dell's website, where they further explained their thinking for updating the names, they stated that customers identify their laptops as Dell, the sub-brands are irrelevant to those just looking for a new laptop and wouldn't be a deciding factor. With all the models, screen sizes, display options, weights, materials and pricing specs it can be hard to decide. So whittling this down to a Pro and Pro Max option makes it much easier.

What is the difference between basic and pro Dell?

So what is the difference between the Dell, Dell Pro, and Dell Pro Max? Before we get into it, let's prove that this new labelling is simpler and give a rough guess of what we think each laptop's name means.

  • Dell: Standard laptop.
  • Dell Pro: This is a slightly more expensive version than the previous one with additional tools.
  • Dell Pro Max: The most expensive of the three models with the added tools and larger screen size.

Now let's see what the difference is between these three laptop models:

  • Dell: Designed for work life (both in the office and school) plus for entertainment reasons. It offers reliable performance for everyday tasks.
  • Dell Pro: Designed with productivity in mind, this laptop offers security and professional features for more powerful work needs.
  • Dell Pro Max: Designed for maximum performance, top-of-the-line specs for engineering, with data analysis, AI development and other intense workloads. Used for heavy-duty, intense tasks.

If you're still a fan of previous laptop categories and want to know what previous Dell laptops fall into which 'pro' category, the XPS, Inspiron and Vostro are all classed as Dell laptops. The Latitude and OptiPlex are both classed as Dell Pro laptops. And the iconic Precision is part of the Dell Pro Max family.

What is Dell Pro?

The Dell Pro was released in January 2025 and is the perfect balance of performance, design quality and durability. With industry-leading security, simple management and a great sustainable design, if it's creating graphics, writing important documents or storing content in your files you're planning on, the Pro laptop is the option for you! Effortlessly tackle workloads with incredible speed thanks to the laptop's AI tools and of course enjoy and Intel Core i7 processor, up to 1TB storage and a 14" screen size.

What is Dell Pro Max?

The Pro Max laptop was released slightly later in March 2025. It's described as high performing, any big tasks you need to complete that are guaranteed to require a lot of energy and power, the Pro Max is calling you. From graphic design to coding and website design, the Pro Max is exactly what you need to push boundaries and tackle the worlds toughest challenges.
