The Movies Coming Soon With Marvel
Everybody loves a good movie, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe has proven as one of the most popular cinematic experiences across the world. And with Avengers: Endgame bringing an era to a close in 2019, we are left wondering what comes next in this universe (even now in 2021!).
With COVID-19 plunging the world into a crisis, we are starting to see life return to normal. And with lockdown restrictions being lifted, many of us cannot wait to return and watch a good Marvel movie in our local cinema.
We have already seen some brilliant new Marvel shows through Disney+, like WandaVision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier. But what about some good movies? Thankfully, Marvel have recently announced their massive line-up of movies for years to come, and we are going to take a look at them in this blog. Before jumping into it, I am going to warn that there will be slight spoilers! So read at your own risk.
Black Widow – July 9th 2021
Black Widow was originally supposed to be released earlier this year, but was delayed because of COVID-19. But it looks like July 9th will be its release date.
Black Widow follows Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow), played by Scarlett Johansson, in a solo movie set after the events of Captain America: Civil War. On the run from the law, she returns to Budapest where she reunites with her family, and confronts her past.
Scarlett Johansson has never played as a lead role in Marvel movie before, despite being in several. But now, we will finally get to see her lead as Black Widow in this upcoming movie.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings – September 3rd 2021
Taking its place as the second film in phase 4 of the MCU, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be a brand-new entry onto the universe. Releasing on September 3rd 2021.
This movie will be based around the character Shang-Chi, originally made in Marvel Comics. Shang-Chi is a martial artist who must face his past as he goes against the Ten Rings organisation and the real Mandarin.
There is not a lot known about this movie currently, but I can’t wait to see more when it comes out later this year.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage – September 15th/24th 2021
Though this is not made by Marvel, this is still a worthy mention. Still set within the Marvel Universe, but made by Sony in association with Marvel.
Acting as a sequel to the first Venom movie releasing in 2018, we follow from Eddie Brock and Venom who come against a new villain: Cletus Kasady who is host to the symbiote Carnage after they escape from prison.
With the movie set to release worldwide in September, this looks to be a brutal movie.
The Eternals – November 5th 2021
The Eternals is another new entry into the MCU and follows a new set of heroes. Set to release on November 5th of this year, this movie looks to be an intriguing one.
The Eternals will have its own separate place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will follow a set of immortal beings who are tasked in protecting Earth. After the events of Avengers: Endgame, the Eternals are brought together to face Earth’s ancient enemy: The Deviants.
Spider-Man: No Way Home – December 17th 2021
The most anticipated Marvel movie this year has to be Spider-Man: No Way Home. Set to release in December, this movie will be the third Spider-Man movie led by Tom Holland and looks to be an exciting one.
Following the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home we got a slight look at what we could see in this third entry, with Spider-Man needing to clear his name.
But there has also been rumours that we could potentially see the multiverse play a role. With the potential of three Spider-Men being in the movie (with rumours that both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield potentially playing the roles) and a number of popular villains like Electro, Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus making appearances.
That does sound exciting, doesn’t it?
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – March 25th 2022
It has been confirmed that Dr Strange will get a second film in 2022, though there is not much information about this sequel, we can tell quite a bit from its title.
It is guaranteed we are going to see the multiverse with this second Dr Strange movie. With Wanda Maximoff (The Scarlett Witch) set to also play a part, we will see parallel universes explored within this movie.
Information on this movie, and most of the further upcoming Marvel movies, is a bit scarce at the time of writing this.
Thor: Love and Thunder – May 6th 2022
Thor: Love and Thunder will be another big release for Marvel in 2022, and will have a bit of a twist to it.
Though we will see all of our favourite characters return, we are set to see Jane Foster (played by Natalie Portman) become Thor in this flipped version of Thor. We will see Chris Hemsworth return, but not in the same role as previous movies. And we could see a new villain: Gorr the God Butcher within this movie.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – July 8th 2022
It is looking certain that will have a massive 2022 with Marvel, with the second Black Panther movie set to be another entry for the year. With a potential release of July 8th.
With the unfortunate death of Chadwick Boseman, we will not see T’Challa within this movie. With a recast not planned. Instead, we will see other characters step up as the role of Black Panther. Including Shuri (played by Letitia Wright).
But again, we have little information as to what may happen within this sequel.
The Marvels – November 11th 2022
The sequel to 2019’s Captain Marvel is set to be released in late 2022. The Marvels will follow Carol Danvers/ Captain Marvel (played by Brie Larson) through an adventure in space.
But like a quite a few movies on this list for 2022, there is barely any information on this movie for the time being.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania – February 17th 2023
And now we move into 2023 with the last batch of confirmed Marvel movies.
First up is the third entry in the Ant-Man series of movies: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Set to release in February of 2023.
Facing against the new villain: Kang the Conqueror inside the Quantum realm. We will have to wait to learn more about this movie.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 - May 5th 2023
For the final confirmed Marvel movie, we will see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 hit cinemas around May 5th 2023. But with this movie still in the distance, we are unaware of any key information about this film.
But we will likely see the search for Gamora in this movie after the events of Avengers Endgame, and the possible emergence of Adam Warlock as shown in the end-credits scene in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2.
There is bound to be more movies released and information to come out over time, but this is the most we all know at the moment. But it looks to be an exciting selection of upcoming films.
